Easter Sunday Massacre:

In Group B: Morocco played Gambia Sunday 4/4/2010 at High Point Park in Richardson, Texas. The powerful Moroccans, a tournament favorites and a seasoned power house of the African Tournaments circles in DFW were scheduled against a young Gambian team, a new comer  to the African Unity Cup who were without three  of their best players who had to attend college teams soccer try outs, and all factors  pointed to an Easter Day debacle for the young Gambian team.  However the gods of soccer had another saying that Sunday.
The game started with a relentless Moroccan attack in the first half and a lot of wasted chances specially by the Moroccan reliable striker Hisham who wasted 2 unbelievable chances only to see the Liberian score from a counter attack. But that only triggered a more intensified Moroccan efforts, and then against the play the Gambian Master Saiho Sonko received a ball at the center circle and then dribbled through the Moroccan middle field and center  defense and finished with a precise strike from the head of the Moroccan 18 yards line, a truly unforgettable goal.  Saeed pulled a goal back 2 minutes before half time for Morocco on a solo effort.
The second half saw a complete domination by the Gambian mid field in term of possession time that resulted in 2 more masterful goals and the Moroccans again pulled back one goal before full time. The game concluded with the Gambians wining 4/2.
This game reflected the trend of the emergence of new young teams (like Somalia. Gambia, Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire etc) that are trying to find their place in the field of DFW African soccer that is being dominated for  long by older aging teams (Sudan, Morocco, Cameroon,  Nigeria ….), and in this Easter Sunday the roaring of the young Gambians lions was louder than that of the aging Moroccan lions. Next for the Gambia is the powerful Nigerians green eagles in Trinity Park in Irving 3:00 pm Saturday 4/10/2010.  While Morocco will face another young hungry team in Cote D’Ivoire at 5:00 pm in UTD Sunday 4/11/2010.
Other results from thesecond week of the DFW African Unity Cup, Nigeria beat Sudan 3/0, Cote D’Ivoire beat the Comoros 2/1, Senegal beat Cameroon 6/0, Liberia and Kenya tied 2/2 and Ghana beat Somalia 4/2.
